Pink shirt day 2020
This year, the senior school celebrated pink shirt day on February 26th in awareness of anti-bullying. In order to encourage students to embody the day's spirit, we held a contest for the three advisories who dressed in the most pink and awarded them cupcakes! We also sold pink donuts at recess, with all proceeds going to the CKNW Kids Fund. Students also enjoyed a photo booth set up in the glass room to take pictures with all of their pink accessories.
During advisory, we asked students to watch a video about the origin of pink shirt day. Advisors gave very positive feedback of the video and commented that there were many interesting discussions about what bullying looks like at WPGA.

Healthy attitudes week 2020
From January 20-24, the WPGA senior school had Healthy Attitudes Week. We brought in a wellness coach for a lunchtime session (pictured on the left), handed out healthy snacks at recess, and had a Kahoot for students to play and learn from during advisory. We also had a number of educational posters put up on WolfTV, and showed the movie "Inside Out" during Wednesday lunch.
We also promoted Mr. Parker's lunchtime discussion about the use of digital devices in our school as a lead up to our three-day digital detox in March.
Thank you to everyone who attended these events!

wellness week 2019
From February 26 to March 1, WPGA's wellness council hosted Wellness Week, which consisted of many events to keep our students mentally and physically happy and healthy. Some activities included watching the movie "Inside Out", Pink Shirt Day, a motivational morning with Hershey's Kisses, button making, music appreciation, and a yoga morning.
Out in schools presentation 2019
This was a fantastic presentation concerning the LGBT2Q+ community and acceptance in schools. Lots of insightful and thoughtful questions were asked from the audience, which was made up of students from grades 7-12. A special thank you to Bella and Finley in grade 10, as well as Mr. Chevreau for their leadership with this initiative!

We celebrated arts and wellness this November with several activities, including mandala colouring, pin making, and a poster competition. The winning posters were put up on WolfTV!
Live different presentation 2018
Live Different is an organization that presents youth with interactive activities (such as dance!) to help them look at their lives in a new perspective. Kindness was their theme for this year. This presentation was open to all senior school students; thanks so much to all those who came to this event!

BC mental health awareness week 2018
This week, wellness council put on several activities for students in celebration of BC mental health awareness week. On Tuesday, we had yoga in the morning and a meditation session at lunch, on Wednesday, we showed mental health documentaries and short films, and on Thursday, students got to decorate cookies!
Wellness week 2017
This is the first time WPGA's Wellness Council has run a Wellness Week, and we are so happy to say that it was a success! Students had the opportunity to go to different wellness-oriented activities every day of the week, ranging from cupcake decorating to yoga classes. We hope to bring this initiative back next year! Thank you to all students who participated and to those who kept their wellness passports, got them stamped, and handed them in for the prize draw.
grade 8 wellness summit 2017
In the fall, Wellness Council hosted a wellness summit for all grade 8 students. We had two different speakers come in and discuss issues including bullying and mindfulness. It was an amazing success! As well, we paired this summit with Adam's Apples, a foundation that WPGA works closely with. In support of this foundation, we handed out apples and apple juice. We thank all grade 8s for their participation and look forward to hopefully doing something similar in the years to come. Coming into the high school is undoubtedly a difficult undertaking, as for the different rotating schedule, as well as coming into a brand new environment. For grade 8s reading this, just remember that every person you pass in the halls of older grades has been through the exact same thing, so if you have any questions or just need someone to talk to, we are here to help you!
grade 10 wellness summit at ubc
WPGA's Wellness Council hosted a Balancing Our Minds Symposium at UBC for the first time; and it was a huge success! It was a day filled with mindfulness, meditation, and mental health awareness; all things that Wellness Council represents. Students learned about anxiety and how best to manage stress, all while participating in hands on activities, including practicing different techniques of meditation. We would like to thank Dr. Greenway and Natasha Flores-Makon ('17) for their informative and inspirational speeches, as well as last year's Grade 10s for their participation in this event!
